Stampin' Up! Shark Frenzy Fun Fold Interior Pop Up Card by Lisa Ann Bernard of Queen B Creations

Did you ever wish you could heat emboss something in a color that you don’t have an embossing powder for? The Stampin’ Up! Stamparatus to the rescue!

Heat Embossing is a great way to add dimension and glossy raised texture to your stamped images. Normally you would stamp in Versamark (or any other embossing) ink and then sprinkle with embossing powder, tap off excess and melt with a heat tool.  The color of the embossing is usually based on the color powder you use.

I wanted my shark, from the Shark Frenzy stamp set, to be embossed in Basic Gray, but didn’t have Basic Gray embossing powder.  With the Stamparatus, I was able to stamp the outline in Memento Black and then ink the inside with Basic Gray ink with perfect alignment. The Stamparatus also allowed me to then stamp in Versamark right over the top of the Basic Gray ink, again with perfect alignment!

Then I sprinkled with clear embossing powder and heated with the heat tool.  Voila – Basic Gray embossing!

My card has a Coastal Cabana card base followed by a Layer of Basic White CS.  Using the Basic Borders Dies, I die cut the cloud edge and used that as a template to mask my layer. I then used my Blending Brushes to brush Balmy Blue as the sky.

Next, I die cut the edge of a 2-1/2″ x 5-1/4″ layer of Coastal Cabana and Pool Party using the wave from the Shark Dies.  For the sand, I used the slopped die from the Shark Dies and Sahara Sand CS. I also brushed a little Sahara Sand ink onto the edge with Blending Brushes.

Using the Shark Dies, I die cut the sharks, so I could tuck them into the waves. The seaweed is die cut from Old Olive and Pear Pizzaz CS and the fish from Pumpkin Pie CS using the Shark Dies.

Here is a close up showing the awesome sheen on my little sharks!

Inside the card is a pop up layer.  This was made by using a 5-1/4″ x 8″ layer of Pool Party CS and measuring in 1-1/2″ from either side and cutting 1-1/2″ above and 1-1/2″ below the score line and folding them out from the card base, while the center folds in normal.

I created a similar scene inside the card as I did outside, although inside the card are the smaller sharks.

Overall, I’m thrilled with how it came out.  What do you think?  Will you be giving this technique a try?  What color will you be embossing in?

More inspiration awaits! Use the Blog Hop Line-up below to visit the rest of this month’s Design Team. My fellow Pals are excited to show you what they’ve created!
