Hi Stampers. For today’s card I am showing you another card using Brusho Crystal Colours. It took me a while to warm up to these (I don’t like messy things). But, once I got the hang of it, I just couldn’t stop playing with the Brusho crystals. You can get so many different effects with them.
This card started with a Daffodil Delight card base, 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″, scored at 4 1/4″. Using the Beautiful Day stamp set, I stamped the butterfly and the sentiment on 5 1/4″ x 4″ piece of watercolor paper with Versamark ink. I then used White stampin’ emboss and my heat tool to heat emboss it. This gave me “edges” to hold in the water when I water-colored. The heat embossing also has a resist technique, so none of the color will stick to it.
Stampin’ Tip: Before I painted this, I used the Aqua Painter to add a little water to the back side of the paper, to help prevent warping. You can also use painters tape to tape the card stock down to keep it flat while painting. It can then be dried with the heat tool on the low setting. If all else fails and it still curls, place heavy books onto of the paper overnight.
A paint pallet from the dollar store was very helpful in mixing the colors, although I have done it on the top of a clear block too. It only takes a very, very small amount of the crystals and a little water to make the colors to paint with. I added the water and painted with the Aqua Painters. Yellow, Orange and Red were used to create this look. For the bottom edge, I put the brush at the edge of the butterfly and dragged towards the edge.
For the inside of the card I stamped the butterfly off the edge on the upper left and lower right corner of a 5 1/4″ x 4″ piece of Whisper White CS with Daffodil Delight ink. I then colored it with the Calypso Coral (light and dark) and the Daffodil Delight (dark) Stampin’ Blends.
Speaking of Stampin’ Blends – these have been super popular and stock is running low and backorders are happening. If you want to order them – DO IT NOW! As of this Friday (March 23rd, at noon (MT), they will be un-orderable until approximately the end of May while they build up their inventory again in anticipation of the new annual catalog. I am wishing for more colors to be added to the Stampin’ Blends line in that new annual catalog! Fingers crossed. 🙂
