Hi Stampers. I love making fancy cards. My customers prefer the simple, but every so often I just need to make something more. That need to create more complex cards is what started my Etsy store. The most popular items in my Etsy store are my “card in a box” cards. I was recently asked to make a card in a box for a beach wedding. I created the Tropical Beach Wedding card that was used in my Pals Blog Hop blog post last week. You can see that post here. Turns out, the beach is in Cape May, NJ – beautiful beach town, but not exactly tropical. So, I created this card.
I’ve done card-in-a-box cards often. You can find the video tutorial on this prior post. This card in a box starts with a Seaside Spray (a 2019-2021 in-color) card base, followed by Sahara Sand CS and then Whisper White CS. I stamped onto the Whisper White CS.
I cut waves out of some scrap Seaside Spray CS and used some 2-way glue and dazzling diamond glitter on the tips of the waves and attached them to the cross members first. The sentiments are from the Beautiful Bouquet stamp set and are stamped in Night of Navy ink. The anchors are from the new Sailing Home stamp set and are stamped in Basic Gray. The ropes are from the same set and are stamped in Crumb Cake ink. The sailboats are also from the Sailing Home stamp set and are stamped in Seaside Spray and Night of Navy inks and are die cut with the coordinating dies.
Do you like the new Sailing Away stamp set and Smooth Sailing dies?
They will be available for purchase when the new 2019-2020 annual Stampin’ Up! catalog goes live on June 4th.
You can save 10% by buying these together as a bundle.
I created the lighthouse to look like the actual lighthouse in Cape May. It is red on top with white on the bottom. I used the lighthouse from the High Tide stamp set. I stamped the first stamp (the one with the detail for the top) using Smoky Slate ink. Then I used the second stamp (the solid part), I inked up just the top in Cherry Cobbler ink and stamped it onto the lighthouse. For the bottom, I stamped in Versamark ink and used White Stampin’ Emboss Powder and melted with the heat tool.
The bride and groom hearts are cut out of Basic Black CS, Whisper White CS and Sparkle Glimmer Paper using the hearts from the Be Mine Dies. Using paper snips I cut the two sides off of the Whisper White heart and glued it onto the Basic Black heart to create the dress shirt. I used the Cookie Cuter Builder Punch to cut the bow tie from Basic Black CS and used a sponge dauber to put a little Whisper White ink to the edges of the bow tie to make it pop. I used my Take Your Pick tool to add pearl accents to the Sparkle Glimmer paper heart. These are attached to each other and to the front of the card box with mini glue dots.
For around the bottom of the card-in-a-box I used the High Tide stamp set to create a beach scene. I used Sahara Sand ink for the sand, Seaside Spray ink for the water (stamped the lines and used sponge dauber over them), a stamping sponge wedge was used to sponge Seaside Spray ink for the sky. The sun is stamped in Mango Melody ink, the birds in Smoky Slate ink and the grass in the sand in Old Olive ink. On the back of the card, I stamped the lighthouse and the flying birds from the new Sailing Home stamp set in Basic Gray ink. This time the customer was thrilled. I hope you are, too.
