Hi Stampers.  Are you ready to order out of the new Annual Catalog tomorrow?!?!  I’m SO excited!  But, while we wait – just one more day (we can order June 4th at noon MT!!) – I have a fun card to share with you all today using the Happy Tails stamp set.  A good friend of mine was looking for a Father’s Day card for her son, who is a firefighter.  I altered that design a little to make it an encouragement card for Kylie’s International Highlights.  Be sure to go over to Kylie’s blog post and vote for my project. .

Stampin' Up! Happy Tails for A Good Man punch art fire hydrant and Dalmation fireman appreciation handmade card by Lisa Ann Bernard of Queen B Creations

This card starts with a Real Red card base, 8-1/2″ x 5-1/2″, scored at 4-1/4″. Next up is a 4″ x 5-1/4″ layer of Basic Black CS. I sponged Basic Gray ink onto a 3-3/4″ x 5″ layer of Whisper White using a stamping sponge.  This was made at a bit of an angle because I will place the dog higher up on the card to make it appear further away than the hydrant.

The fire hydrant was made by what we call “punch art”.  I punched out various shapes and glued them together using multipurpose liquid glue to get this fire hydrant.  The center post was made by trimming down a piece of Real Red CS that was punched out using the Everyday Label punch. For the top and side bumps of the hydrant I used 3/4″ Real Red CS circles with a tiny strip of CS poking out of the middle of the circle. The front was a 3/4″ circle of Real Red CS followed by a 1/2″ Real Red CS circle and a tiny Real Red square.  To finish it off, I cut the other pieces to the hydrant by fussy cutting them from Real Red CS using my paper snips. All the pieces were sponged with Real Red ink on the edges before assembly.

I used Memento Black ink to stamp the dog (from the Happy Tails stamp set) onto a scrap of Whisper White CS.  To make the dog into a dalmatian I used the dots (also from the Happy Tails stamp set) and Memento Black ink. The dog was then punched out using the Dog Builder Punch.  I also used the Dog Builder Punch to punch the tiny heart from Real Red CS. For the sentiment, I stamped the greeting – from a new stamp set – A Good Man in Real Red ink onto a 4″ x  3/4″ strip of Whisper White CS.  I also cut a 4″ x 1″ strip of Real Red CS.  Both of these strips were flagged using the banner triple punch and then layered on top of each other and then onto the Whisper White layer.

Stampin’ Tip: Adhere the banner strips to the top layer before adhering that top layer to the card base and you can trim off the excess from the back side, making sure they fit perfectly.

Inside the card, I have a 4″ x 5-1/4″ layer of Whisper White CS. The sentiment was stamped in Real Red ink using a sentiment from Flourishing Phases. To make the inside coordinate with the outside of the card, the dalmatian and his bone (again from Happy Tails stamp set) were stamped in Memento Black ink.  I used a light Smoky Slate Stampin’ Blend to “ground” them.  I was pretty happy with how it turned out and so was my friend.  Now, be sure to pop on over to Kylie’s blog post and vote for my project.
