Hi Stampers. I don’t know about you, but I’m tired of snow and ready for some time in the tropics! Today’s card features a new stamp set called Timeless Tropical. Someone had asked me to show them how to do the masking technique, so I thought this set would make the perfect example. You can see how I made these cards by watching the video below.
Card #1:
This was the card I made first. I stamped the flower first, masked it and then stamped the leaves.
Stampin’ Tip: For masking, stamp the image you want in the foreground first, then stamp it again on a post it note. Cut out the image on the post it note with paper snips (or the coordinating die). Place the post -it note image over the stamped image on your card layer. Then stamp the images you want to appear to be coming from behind. After you have done this you can remove the post it note and finish the card as normal.
I colored in the flower with Stampin’ Blends. To try to give it more shading, I used Daffodil Delight, Mango Melody and Pumpkin Pie Stampin’ Blend combos on the flower. The leaves are colored using Old Olive Stampin’ Blends.
Card #2:
The card base is Mango Melody followed by a layer of Garden Green CS and then my Whisper White layer. I don’t know if you can tell, but the sentiment has a little variation in color. I needed to re-ink my pad, so I added the ink but before rubbing it with a spoon to spread it around, I inked my stamp. It came out pretty.
This flower was colored with Mango Melody Stampin’ Blends combo and Pumpkin Pie Stampin’ Blend for center stem. After I colored with the Stampin’ Blends, I inked a sponge dauber with Calypso Coral ink and dabbed it in the center of the flower.
The inside of the card has another layer of Whisper White CS that I stamped on using more stamps from the Timeless Tropical stamp set. The video below shows how I made these cards.
Stampin’ Tip: To get two colors of ink on one stamp, ink the stamp with the brush end of the Stampin’ Write markers. Then “huff” (breathe heavy) on the inked stamp. The mositure from your breathe will sort of re-wet the ink. Then stamp onto the cardstock.
