Hi Stampers. Welcome to the Stampin’ Pretty Pals’ Blog Hop! This month, the theme is “My Happiest Season”. We really hope that you enjoy and will be inspired by them! As you hop from blog to blog, don’t forget to leave comments because we love hearing from you. You will find the lineup at the end of my post to help you “hop” along from Pal to Pal. I hope you like my swinging pendulum card.
I think my favorite season is Fall. I’m not a fan of alot of heat (unless I can be in water), so the idea of things cooling off, but not yet freezing, sounds wonderful. As a way to showcase Fall for our hop, I made a swinging pendulum card. (Above is a 4 second video of it swinging. You can see a complete video of how the card was made on my Facebook Page HERE or an edited version will be on my YouTube channel soon.)
This pendulum card starts with a Merry Merlot card base, 4-1/4″ x 11″, scored at 5-1/2″. To hold my pendulum, I cut a small strip of Merry Merlot CS, 1/2″ x 2″, scored at 1/2″, 1″ and 1-1/2″. The two middle pieces were glued together and the two outside flaps were adhered to either side of the inside of the card, at the top, over the score line. A small hole was punched in the part that is glued together and at the top of a 1/4″ x 4″ strip of Window Sheet.
The front of the pendulum card is covered with a 4″ x 5-1/4″ layer of Beauty of the Earth DSP and a 4″ x 5-1/4″ layer of Basic White CS is adhered in the center of the card. In the center of the card front, I die cut a large circle, using the Layering Circles Dies and a ring was die cut using that circle and a slightly larger scalloped circle with Merry Merlot CS.
Using the Birds & Branches stamp set, I stamped the nest in Crumb Cake ink (with some thumping of Early Espresso and Soft Suede markers) and the bird is stamped in Misty Moonlight. These were then die cut using the Birds and More dies and attached to the strip of Window Sheet using mini glue dots. A brad was used to attached the top of the Window Sheet strip to the bracket at the top of the card.
The sentiment, from the Birds and Branches stamp set is stamped onto a 3/4″ x 4″ strip of Basic White CS using Merry Merlot ink. Linen Thread was wrapped around the right side and the Pick A Banner Punch was used to punch the left side. This strip was then adhered to the card front using Stampin’ Dimensionals.
Next, I cut a stabilizer piece to go in the bottom that is another Merry Merlot piece 2-1/2″ x 4-1/4″, scored at 1/2″, 1-1/4″ and 2″. This piece was folded as a “W”. After the pendulum is added this piece is adhered with the 1/2″ pieces adhered to either side of the inside bottom of the card. Because this encloses the inside, I added a 4″ x 5-1/4″ layer of Basic White CS to the back of the card, where the message could be written.
