Hi, Stampers. Happy “Royal Retreat Week” Monday! Our very first Royal Retreat happens this week! I’m so excited!  We will be in Rockland Idaho Thursday to Sunday. So fun!! Today, I have a gatefold explosion card for you.  I’ve done gatefold cards before, but this time it has a pop-out in the center making it even more fun!

A gatefold card starts out with a standard size card base – 8-1/2″ x 5-1/2″ in Pumpkin Pie CS.  But, this time it is scored 2-1/8″ in from either side, making them meet in the middle like a gate.

My gatefold explosion card is held closed with a belly band.  The belly band is approx. 10″ long and 1″ tall piece of CS followed by a 3/4″ piece of Flowering Fields DSP of the same length.

Inside the card is fully decorated with a 4- 1/8″ x 5-3/8″ piece of Flowering Fields DSP in the center and a 2″ x 5-3/8″ piece of the same DSP on either side.

The pop out explosion part of my gatefold explosion card is a 4″ x 8″ piece of DSP that has been scored and folded according to the diagram below. In the center are layering squares and a sentiment stamped in Pumpkin Pie ink.

Here is another card I did the same day that has a Poppy Parade card base. This gatefold explosion card has all the same measurements and even the same DSP – Flowering Fields, it’s just done in different colors and pattern of DSP.

I made this card on a LIVE streaming class – I have one every week, Monday’s at 2:30pm MT – prior to the Stitched So Sweetly Dies retiring. The Seasonal Layers Dies may work really well as a replacement on the labels.

My gatefold explosion cards have the Bumblebee Trinkets that just retired, a good replacement for that is the Brushed Brass Butterflies.  One great thing about the Brushed Brass Butterflies is that they are nice and flat, which is good for mailing.  Follow along with the template and video below to make one of these cards yourself – then come share it with us in the Realm of Creativity on Facebook.
