Are you a cardmaker looking for a simple design that has a little something extra? Let me introduce you to the Bookmark Pocket Card — a creative card layout that includes a built-in bookmark. It’s a fun and functional card idea, perfect for all skill levels. In this tutorial, I’ll walk you through two versions: one that’s beginner-friendly and one that’s slightly stepped up for those ready to add more detail. Both versions feature the stunning Beautiful Gallery Designer Series Paper from Stampin’ Up!, a collection known for its elegant and artistic floral patterns.

During a recent episode of my Stamping Made Simple series on YouTube, I demonstrated how to create the simpler version of this bookmark pocket card, perfect for beginners who may not yet have a Stampin’ Up! Cut & Emboss Machine.

This version of the bookmark pocket card starts with a Basic Beige card base, measuring 11″ x 5-1/2″, scored at 4-1/4″ and 8-1/2″. The final 2-1/2″ section creates a front pocket once it’s trimmed at an angle — no precise measurements needed, as I share a clever trick in the video that makes this step super easy. The card front is decorated with a 3-3/4″ x 5″ piece of Beautiful Gallery Designer Series Paper, matted onto a 4″ x 5-1/4″ piece of Pecan Pie cardstock. The pocket section features a coordinating strip of DSP measuring about 2″ x 5″, also matted on Pecan Pie cardstock, and adhered with Tear & Tape to create a secure pocket.

The inside of the bookmark pocket card continues the elegant theme. A 4″ x 5-1/4″ layer of Pecan Pie cardstock is added for structure, followed by a 3-3/4″ x 5″ piece of Very Vanilla cardstock. A 1/2″ strip of the same Designer Series Paper is adhered along the left edge to tie the whole look together. This clean layout is perfect for writing a heartfelt message or stamping an additional sentiment.

For the stepped-up version of the Bookmark Pocket Card, I used the same card base in Basic Beige but added more texture and depth. Instead of Pecan Pie, I used Mossy Meadow cardstock to mat the Beautiful Gallery DSP. For the front pocket, I skipped the DSP entirely and embossed a piece of Basic Beige cardstock with the Birch Wood 3D Embossing Folder, adding a beautiful layer of natural texture. This version gives the card a slightly more refined and dimensional look while keeping the same overall layout.

For the sentiment on this handmade fun fold card, I used the Hearts of Elegance stamp set. I stamped the sentiment in Crumb Cake ink onto Very Vanilla cardstock for a warm, vintage look. Then, I punched it out using the Heartfelt Hexagon Punch To create a soft, layered effect, I punched a second hexagon from Mossy Meadow cardstock, cut it in half, and adhered it behind the sentiment label, allowing just a hint of color to peek out from the top and bottom. Both cards include a detachable bookmark made from a 1-3/4″ x 10″ piece of Basic Beige cardstock, scored at 5″. I added a 1-1/2″ x 4-3/4″ strip of DSP to the front of the bookmark, then punched a 1/8″ hole at the top and tied it with Basic Beige 3/8″ Classic Ribbon for a polished finish.
