Looking for a fun and creative handmade birthday card idea? This faux shaker card is the perfect way to add a pop of confetti fun—without the mess! Using high-quality Stampin’ Up! crafting supplies, I’ll show you how to make a clean and simple interactive card that’s sure to impress. It’s a quick and easy project, great for beginners and seasoned crafters alike. I started with a Berry Burst card base, cut to 8-1/2″ x 5-1/2″ and scored at 4-1/4″. For the focal layer, I chose a 5-1/4″ x 4″ piece of the Beautiful Bokeh 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper. This gorgeous background was the perfect choice to pair with the faux shaker technique.
To create the shaker effect, I placed the DSP into a clear medium envelope, added some colorful confetti or shaker bits, then sealed the flap and folded the excess plastic to the back, securing it with Stampin’ Seal. This gives the illusion of a real shaker card—without the extra bulk or work!
Next, I tied a bow using coordinating ribbon (my bow maker tool makes this step easy!) and adhered it to the front of the shaker layer, again wrapping the ends around to the back and taping them in place. Once everything was secure, I adhered this entire layer to the Berry Burst card front using Stampin’ Dimensionals for a bit of lift.
For the sentiment, I stamped a birthday greeting, from the Unbounded Love stamp set, in Berry Burst ink onto Basic White cardstock and punched it out using the Heartfelt Hexagon Punch. I added a mat by punching a second hexagon from Berry Burst cardstock, cutting it in half horizontally, and adhering the pieces behind the white label to create a shadow effect at the top and bottom.
Inside the card, I added a 5-1/4″ x 4″ layer of Basic White cardstock, stamped with a heartfelt sentiment in Berry Burst ink. For a finishing touch, I stamped a delicate butterfly image (from the Beautiful Butterflies stamp set)—also in Berry Burst—in the top left and bottom right corners to add balance and elegance.
