Technique Tuesdays Blog Hop Badge

Welcome, crafty friend! I’m so glad you’re here. It’s Technique Tuesday Blog Hop time, where a group of creative Stampin’ Up!® Demonstrators from around the world come together each month to showcase a fun new technique. This month, we’re highlighting background techniques for handmade cards, and I’m excited to show you one of my favorites: the Tissue Paper Technique!

This technique adds amazing texture and color to your card backgrounds, and it’s easier than you might think! You can achieve a beautiful, artistic look with just Stampin’ Up! inks, tissue paper, and a few basic supplies.

Stampin' Up! Unbounded Love Birthday Card Tissue Paper Technique by Lisa Ann Bernard of Queen B Creations

For this first card, I used a standard Azure Afternoon card base (5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″, scored at 4-1/4″). On a large piece of white tissue paper (approx. 8″ x 6″), I blended Azure Afternoon, Berry Burst, and Daffodil Delight inks using Blending Brushes to create a colorful background.

To attach the tissue to my card, I applied an Adhesive Sheet to a 5-1/4″ x 4″ piece of Basic White cardstock. I crumpled the tissue paper into a ball, then gently flattened it back out to create that signature wrinkled texture before adhering it to the cardstock.

I trimmed the corners diagonally and wrapped the excess tissue around to the back. A coordinating ribbon was tied into a bow and wrapped around the layer for added dimension.

The sentiment was stamped in Berry Burst ink on Basic White cardstock and punched using the Heartfelt Hexagon Punch. I added a second hexagon punched from Azure Afternoon cardstock, cut it in half, and layered it behind the white label for a colorful mat. The sentiment piece was popped up using Stampin’ Dimensionals.

My second card features rich fall colors with a Mossy Meadow card base in portrait orientation. I blended Cajun Craze, Pecan Pie, Pumpkin Pie, Crushed Curry, and Early Espresso inks onto the tissue paper to create a warm, earthy background.

This tissue layer was mounted onto Very Vanilla cardstock, and I added a Basic Beige ribbon tied in a faux bow for a soft, rustic accent.

The sentiment was stamped in Cajun Craze and punched with the Heartfelt Hexagon Punch, then layered over an Early Espresso backing created by cutting a second hexagon in half and attaching it behind the sentiment.

For a more pastel look, I chose a Fresh Freesia card base and blended Fresh Freesia, Pool Party, and Daffodil Delight inks onto the tissue paper background.

The sentiment was stamped in Fresh Freesia onto Basic White cardstock, then matted with a Pool Party hexagon punch backing cut in half to frame the sentiment.
